Support for Birth/First Mothers

Weaving Threads offers therapeutic counseling to first/birth mothers who are seeking supportive counseling regarding the experience of having had an unexpected pregnancy and having decided to place that child in the care of another family. Unlike other therapeutic services available to first birthmothers, this therapy ends only when the woman feels that it is time.

All Weaving Threads therapists are licensed clinicians who have participated in intensive, specially designed training focused on the unique issues central to the experiences of first/birth mothers. Some of the areas we address are adoption-specific history, politics and policies, cultural and family messages about adoption placement, and, of course, common emotional and psychological impacts for women who are placed. In addition, therapists attend monthly consultation meetings designed to further their education and provide professional support in this area.
